Pale Pink Linen Dress...

Remember this linen dress I made last year? I really liked how it turned out so much that I wanted to revisit the pattern with different fabric. I had pale pink linen fabric I purchased at the same time I bought the purple fabric and I decided to use it for the same dress...

But the thing is; I had a little less fabric so I had to make the skirt shorter and I couldn't make the belt. I thought it would still be fine, but I like the longer length much better. I think that would make me feel more "me".

The air is getting a bit chilly around here, so I also wanted to take some pictures with a cardigan and a scarf, but when I was looking at the pictures before writing this post, the white cardigan and the pink dress reminded me of the nurses when I was in the hospital in Japan growing up! Ugh!! Well, to be honest with you, this is not my favorite dress I have ever made... but, you live and learn, right? I also know that when you are in a creative endeavor, they can't all be winners even though that's what we strive for. Isn't it so interesting how just a few inches off the skirt length or less than a quarter inch of difference could change the whole look of a piece of clothing?

I wish I could turn back time and make something else instead... I will still wear it around the house, but this was a learning experience for me. I hope my next project will be something I could say "I love" and share with you!

  1. Well I think it is just lovely. Both color and length suit you - would look pretty with pearls in the Spring. Don't toss it aside just yet.

  2. Life is too short to wear clothes you don't love. I think that you could dye the dress and that would help get over the "nurse" look.Or you could insert a contrast band above the hemline and matching facings to lengthen and add some more color. The purple looks more vibrant on you.

    1. Thank you for the great ideas! I agree with you, life is too short to wear things we don't love. :)

  3. Sachiko, you are the most adorable model. I also love your thought process. I have that too. I used to be a nurse... so work through that thought and perhaps you will appreciate this dress a little more, OR you could think about making something else with it (I have done that with dresses that turned out not so nice, and a bit awful honestly) I see this dress you made as one that you could make a wonderful tie belt with some liberty of london cotton, or even applique or embroider on the bodice.
Oh even add a skirt underneath that is longer.... yes, I am silly. I do frill up my clothes. I love feminine looks, it is just what I love.
It is getting chilly here in northern Virginia, but I usually wear my shorts (a traditional cut fashion mid waist, solid color) I can pile on the tops, and my legs can get that breezy fall air. Funny how I can wear shorts in 55 degree air in Fall but not the same as the end of winter going into summer. I think it is because I find the chill on my legs so wonderful and tolerable at the end of summer.
Sorry to blabber on your blog he he I love this dress.
Thank you for showing your pandemic progress. It is good, and we are so fortunate and blessed to be able to keep busy

    1. Thank you for your ideas, Rosemary! I still love the fabric, so I will hold on to it and wait and see what I want to do with it. It it interesting what you said about how you could wear shorts in the fall, but not early spring to summer. I love having different seasons. Looking forward to different holidays, gatherings and anticipation for seasonal things are fun. Not to mention the different fashion choices for the season is an added bonus.

Thank you for visiting my little corner in the blogging world. 2020 has been such a crazy year for all of us; with the pandemic, natural disasters, social/political chaos... it is truly eye opening to say the least. I know I am very blessed to be able to do what I do.:) Take care and stay safe!

  4. Sachiko, you have such a lovely eye for style and color, and I really enjoy the headpieces and scarves you choose to complement the fabrics and colors. This blouse has really caught my eye, and I think it may be that bronze color on the black as you described. A pretty fabric design that this blouse shows off. Thank you for sharing your designs. They are inspiring and never fail to make me smile.

  5. That dress looks so lovely, the colour really suits you.
If you have your heart set on a longer length, you could cut some off the length, add a piece of Linen in white or contrast colour and sew the pink back on.It would look like a design feature rather than just an add on.
The contrast could have a few pintucks at the top for extra detail.
