Link Love! #18

Hi everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I had lots of things going on and, I realized that my little girl's birthday is approaching, I started getting ready for that today! One of the things I did to get ready for the special day was to go buy her some presents. Ah, it was so fun... Having two boys first, the toys I bought for the first several years were weapons, star wars, dinosaurs, legos, etc. There is nothing wrong with boy toys, actually they are lots of fun, BUT I enjoy looking at girly toys much more. Part of me wishes I had some of the toys growing up(Today's kids are so spoiled!).

I have been working on some projects with the Liberty fabrics too. I will be able to share one of the project next week.

I enjoyed going through all the links for this week, and picked a few of them that caught my eye.

Fly Away Home needed a desk for her daughter...instead of spending over $200, she found a table and a chair for $40 and performed an amazing transformation!


I want this... Handmade Con Amore shared her super functional and stylish floor cushion. I love her fabric choice! She was inspired by Living with Punks. Go check out her awesome tutorial!


School is starting soon. I don't know about you, but in our household, we use lots of jellies for lunch sandwiches. Tara in Wonderland shares how to make Blueberry Jelly with us. My mouth is watering...


Get Craftin' got creative and made these beautiful wall decors. She definately has an eye for finding the potential in things. Also, how she grouped them and decorated the wall is very nice!


Check this out! Jessica G made this adorable baby sun visor and she posted a step by step tutorial. I love it!

Liberty of London

Some of you may know that there were pretty items by Liberty of London at Target a while ago... old news? No, not to me, I was especially eyeing the fabric items, such as scarfs, evening wear and men's trunks(?!). They finally came down on the prices and I bought several items.

I have been such a big fan of Liberty for a long long time, ever since I can remember. Where I lived in Japan, there was a fabric store that specialized in high quality import fabrics and such. I would save up my allowance and buy fat quarters and sewing books made by Liberty. Yeah, I haven't changed much when it comes to the love of fabrics and sewing.

I couldn't decide what I was going to do with those fabrics, but a couple days ago, I finally cut into them. Ahhhhh! For many of my sewing projects, if I don't have patterns, I will make up my own thing as I go along. For me that is the fun of it.

I am going to make several different items out of them, and share the pictures with you all. Wish me luck! ;)

Some of you lost your loved ones to cancer or other illnesses and have a special connection with donating hair... I was so touched reading your stories. Sometimes I am worried about this world we live in, but it gives mea hope when I hear other people's acts of kindness and thoughtfulness. Thank you for making my day! (and Rachel was really tickled by all the comments too.)

After I finished Four Shirts Four Ways last week, I started a new projects and I am really enjoying the process. It will be a while until I can share the pictures, but you will be the first ones to see them!

Something to Give

Last Saturday, Rachel gave away something she had and had planned to giveaway for a long time...


Her hair...

Have you heard about an organization called Locks of Love?

I told her about them, and what they will use the hair for, several months ago. Ever since then, she has been excited about the idea of giving away her hair.

We found a participating hair salon (and when you donate the hair, the haircut is free!) and went there in the morning. I wasn't sure if she would really go through with this, but she did.


She was very excited.


She looks so cute with her new hair style, but at the same time she looks so much older looking, a small part of me felt a little sad...

She is a very special little girl. Very funny, smart, loving and beautiful. It is my hope that she will keep growing the same way she has been so far, and be a beautiful person inside and out.



Just like she is to me now.

These adorable twin aprons are made by en ØBY ting. I can't understand a word on her blog, but she has lots of inspiring pictures. I love the fabrics she used for this project!


I couldn't resist picking this one... Scraps N'Strings shares her tutorial how to make this irresistable Tag-a-long Lion. It looks so simple and easy to make, and the results are awesome! My boys love to read Calvin and Hobbs, and I know Hobbs is a tiger, but this lion reminded of me that comic.

Four Shirts Four Ways ~ Light Beige ~

Hi everyone! This is my last of the four t-shirt makeovers and I really had a hard time deciding what to do with this one. Since this is one of my favorite colors I really wanted to make something I would wear all the time, rather than experiment and oops, I don't think I am going to wear this...

So, after thinking it over for a while, I have decided to do one of my very favorite styles. Remember my original ruffle shirt? I used the same idea, but changed it a little bit to give it more of a boutique feel to it.


{You will need}

Two of the same shirts
Matching thread
About 4 yards of lace (mine is a little less than 1/2" wide)
Two small buttons

{How to}

1. Lay the shirt flat on the cutting board and cut the t-shirt. Cut the bottom, cut the middle part into five parts, that are 2"wide.


2. Take four out of those five loops, cut both sides off to make 2" X 14" strips. The last loop needs to be longer than the others, so cut just one side off. This one will be the ruffle to go on the front neck line.


3. Add lace to the bottom of the strips using a zig-zag stitch.


4. Seal the edges with fray check.


5. Make ruffles. Stitch one side with the largest stitch setting on your sewing machine. Pull one thread to gather the fabric.


6. I wanted to bring the neckline higher for this design, so I cut the very bottom piece of fabric to fill in the v-neckline. Sewed with zig-zag.


7. Pin the longest ruffle to the neckline. I decided not to go all the way around the neck, so when I wear this shirt in the Fall with a cardigan, the back won't be so bumpy.


8. Keep adding the ruffles. Make sure that those ruffles will overlap each other a little bit.




9. Lay the t-shirt flat on table and mark the middle part of the sleeves. Fold the sleeve and stitch two places to secure the pleats. Add button.

 
10. I made some flowers with the leftover fabric pieces. Although, I couldn't decide if I liked the t-shirt with flowers or without. So, I made it in to a corsage...

My Four Shirts Four Ways challenge is over, but I will be doing more t-shirt makeovers in the future. They are lots of fun!

There are many important things I do when I am not sewing and blogging. For example...

I finished off the last piece of my husband's birthday cake that I made a couple days ago...I felt like I was responsible because I was the one that made it... no wonder I still haven't lost the last 10 lb from my pregnancy (for how many years?)

I didn't eat the whole thing! There was only 1 slice left this morning.
Also, I made close to 90 water ballons for a church youth activity... (I broke few as I was trying to fill them with water, my bathroom and I were all wet afterwards)


And...I am still brainstorming for the last shirt tutorial.
