Mr.TRH and I have been married for quite a bit, but we never owned a headboard. Why?
Reason 1. When we were newly married there were so many other things we needed to spend money on and it was never a priority.
Reason 2. I dreamed of having a four post bed for a while, but while we were staying with my in-laws, Mr.TRH would always hang things around our bed like it was our open closet, so that idea went out the window.
Reason 3. I have NEVER found a bed I liked in my price range. EVER.
Then, one day I found my dream bed... Meet Lombok Bed.
I just LOVE this bed. Talk about character... then I saw the price tag of over $3000(after tax), yikes!
So I was ok with not having a headboard or bed until I could find something I love, but the Lombok bed always stayed in my mind.
I was out shopping a few weeks ago, when I walked in to a local Tuesday Morning, the sight of a pretty privacy screen caught my eye.
I told Mr.TRH what I had in mind with it, he got his tools out and start working on it for me! We had to take all the hinges and screws out, because each panel is put together so that they will fold accordion style. With the hinges, the screen won't be perfectly flat like a headboard would be. He screwed in some supporting wood on the back...
and screwed the panel into the wall. Viola! I have an Anthro inspired headboard in my bedroom.
I kept the same lamp but changed the shades and added a couple new décor for the night stand to freshen up the room.
A couple posts ago, I shared a tutorial for Euro pillow case from a twin size quilt. Look how they are sitting pretty on my bed.
It is not exactly like the Anthro bed, but I got the feel of it for $160 dollars instead of $3000 and I am pretty happy with how it turned out. Next time when you are out shopping, you might find a pretty privacy screen. One of the secrets for success for this project is to have the measurement of the bed you want the headboard for. Also carry a small measuring tape with you, so when you see the privacy screen, you can measure it across and see if it is the right size for your bed.
Thank you for stopping by. Have a happy summer everyone!

Newly Painted Chairs
Thank you for those of you who left comments on my last post about prepping tips. I will definitely keep them in mind for future reference.
So, I only shared the shadow of a chair in my last post. I am done painting... Are you ready to see them?
I am going to be a tease and show you a before pictures of both chairs first.
I found this windsor chair at a local thrift store. I was looking for a windsor chair, boy was I lucky... They were a set of three for $40! I needed two more chairs for my dining table, so it was a perfect deal! Did you know that pretty good windsor chairs cost anywhere from a couple hundred to thousands (if it's a rare antique piece)?

I LOVE this one that I found at a moving sale for a steal (it was so long ago, I can't remember if I paid $5 or $15). I love the style of this chair; I found a similar style chair on Pottery Barns’ website for $300... Oh, I love thrifting. :)

I painted them both white. I know, I know, painting furniture white is kind of boring for some people, but I can't help it. That is the color I love! There is other furniture I am thinking about painting with "color", but who knows what will happen in the last minute.
So, I was trying to decide where to place them around the house. I think I will keep them like this for a while until I have a better idea.

or, maybe by the door?

It was a lot of work, but it is always so thrilling to see the end result. I keep staring at my dining table and chairs and trying to decide if I have enough energy left in me to give them a face lift.
Psst... I added some stuff to my etsy store. I know some of you told me that you are interested in purchasing my jewelries, please go check it out to see what's there. I might add more later on.

Not So Pretty + Ugly = Beautiful
I bought this cabinet during our humble start at a thrift store. I wanted an entertainment center for our 13" TV (we were using a moving box as the entertainment center). It was only five dollars. In fact, it was an ugly peppermint green with some spider webs inside. Wow, that was about 13 years ago...
I took it home, and painted it white. A few years later I painted it black. For a while, I have been tired of looking at this cabinet. The kids bump into it so many times with their toys, the paint was scratched off in some areas and it didn't look pretty. I want to keep this cabinet forever to remember where we started after we got married. This cabinet holds special value to me.
The other day, I was at a thrift store and found this;
I forgot to take a picture before I took off the back, but this book shelf had a back and drawer. It doesn't look pretty, but it is very well made and stable. I decided to take a chance and paid 15 dollars for it and went home.
Lots of... I mean LOTS and LOTS of elbow greese, I came up with this;
I have to say... I LOVE IT!! It took me such a long time to scrape the paint off the cabinet. There were actually four layers of paint, the black, white, peppermint green and a pinkish orange! Who knew, there was one more layer beneath the peppermint green. I probably lost some brain cells from the strong paint remover... but all the work paid off. I have to give credit for my supportive husband for helping me big time with this project. He cut out new back for the shelf, carried heavy stuff for me... Why is it, when ever his wife has a GREAT IDEA somehow he get busy too...
I couldn't wait to get up in the morning today, so I could start decorating the shelves. I went all over the house gathering "white stuff" to decorate my new found furniture. I alway wanted something like this to showcase my white collections (which more than half of them are from garage sales or thrift stores).
I can't stop smiling everytime I walk by. Now, what else can I transform?

Down Memory Lane---Chair Makeover---
Several years ago, I found this chair at a garage sale for two dollars. As you can see, It was in really bad condition. Originally, the chair had wheels,(which were all moldy and blueish), the vinal cover was ripped, and probably it was in the garage or outside for a long time it had lots of dust and spider webs!!
The structure was good, and the pillow was still in good shape, it was firm. I couldn't pass it up, because I saw the potential. I must remind you that it was only two dollars. I thought this would be a perfect practice piece.
When I got home I excitedly asked my husband, "Guess how much I paid for this?!". He paused and said, "75 cent? I wouldn't pay more then that." Ha! He wasn't being mean, he knows that when I say," Guess how much..." usually, I paid a very low price. So, he always low balls his guess. That comment made me more ambitious to give the chair a new look.
After lots of hours and elbow greese, I came up with this;
I already had paint, so, for the materials, I spent close to thirty dollars. The foot stool is something I found at Target for Seven bucks and I upholstered it to match the chair. After the makeover I was at a gift shop, and saw an almost identical chair... My curiosity got the better of me and I couldn't help but flip the tag over to see the price. It was around Six hundred dollars! Yeah! I gave myself a high five and left the store.
The chair is one of my favorite pieces of furniture that I own.
